Types of Floors

UB Hardwoods works with several specific types of flooring depending on the location and subfloor in your location:

Solid Hardwood Flooring: This 3/4”  hardwood flooring can be installed on top of a standard plywood subfloor that is found in most homes in the United States. The flooring is ¾” thick and is nailed or glued to your subfloor. The flooring is available in an unfinished form (finish coats are applied at your location) or pre-finished.

Engineered Hardwood Flooring: This hardwood flooring is installed when your location has a concrete subfloor, your room is below grade or if you are installing the hardwood flooring over a radiant floor heating system. Engineered flooring is glued to the concrete,or floated over just about any subfloor . It can be sold either unfinished or pre-finished.

Install

We install domestic hardwoods directly from Wisconsin mills, as well as from other areas of the country. We also have an extensive selection of exotic woods from all over the world.

When purchasing flooring, we insist on the highest quality milling, to the tightest tolerances. You can be assured we have done our homework. The flooring material used in your home is top quality.

Dustless Sanding

At UB Hardwoods, we believe starting with the best equipment will help our trained technicians consistently create the best-looking floors. All our sanding crews are equipped with top-of-the line equipment. Great sanding machines, fine-tuning, and timely maintenance gives our technicians a big advantage over our competition, enabling them to create the beautiful finished look only achieved by real craftsman.

We have invested in our customers. We realize sanding your floors can be a very messy job requiring extensive cleanup. UB Hardwoods makes finishing hardwood floors a pleasant experience. State of the art techniques keep dust confined in a vacuum  that sits outside the house, keeping the interior of your home clean and dust free.  We sand each floor up to a high grit sandpaper while filling holes and cracks in between steps to ensure a smooth, level finish. In the event you have any prior damage from water, pet stains or termites, these boards can be replaced.

We use a special 150-pound buffer that vacuums simultaneously, and all of our equipment is monitored on each job site to maintain consistent performance. We also provide shoe molding around the entire perimeter of the floor.

Finish

We have several options for finishing your floors, all of which we discuss and examine using color and stain swatches.

You can also choose your floors sheen, from satin, semi gloss or high gloss. Oil based polyurethane is the most popular finishes used, but other finishes can be used at your request.

Other finishes include water based polyurethane, tongue oil, wax and moisture cure. We are also proficient in the application of polyurethane, water-base urethane, Moisture Cure, Danish oil, waxes, Tung oil, just to mention a few.

We also offer many options for customers preferring low VOC finishes. Let us help you choose the right finish for your project and your family.

Re-coat

Re-coating can energize new life back into old floors. This is typically a one-day process and is a less expensive alternative to completely re-sanding.

The re-coating process includes buffing the floor to remove light scratches and preparing the floor for fresh layers of polyurethane. Every 3 to 5 years, we recommend applying more finish to your floors to make your floor look new again.

Repair

  • Lace-ins to repair holes in boards or damaged boards
  • Repair areas where vents or other items were removed from floor area

Buff & Recoat

A one day process that involves buffing your floors and adding a brand new protective finish coat to make them look fresh and new.

Borders and Medallions

We have become experts at the art of designing and installing beautiful borders and medallions in homes. These include simple wood feature stripes in door or archways to laser cut, room framing exotic borders.
